Tactile Parcheesi Board in use

Adapted Game Board Allows Rick to Play Again

If you have never heard of the game Parcheesi, then you are not alone! The Makers program received a request for a Parcheesi game board to be adapted, allowing Rick to play his favorite game again. The Makers team learned more about the game to better understand how it is played before making the necessary adaptations to accommodate Rick’s loss of vision. The Parcheesi board was fabricated by laser cutting a wood game board and 3D printing pegs and dice. The necessary adaptations to the game consisted of overall increasing the size of the board, pegs, and dice along with tactile shapes added to each player’s set of pegs. The adapted version allows Rick to once again play with loved ones and friends. It has brought back old memories of fun times and has helped him to enjoy creating new ones.
