At the Abilities Expo Makers’ staff were approached by a mother who was curious what they could do for son. The mother of Awan wanted the IATP Makers to expand her son’s Joystick options. Her son is a power chair user that ran into a problem. His original joystick handle was lost, leaving him only with the shaft. The Maker team now has full access to design the joystick freely. The Makers asked Awan what kind of joystick texture he would prefer and they, decided on a green geodesic sphere. The design will give a great tactile feel, giving more motor control. Awan requested the joystick to be green which the Makers happily obliged. Once securing the fit of the joystick the Makers shipped the joystick to Awan and their mother. When they received it, they were very happy with the design and feel of the joystick. The IATP Makers gave them a few extra for options for Awan, incase if the joystick is lost again. Awan and his mother were thrilled to receive the joysticks giving Awan easier access.
