Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP) Makers received a request from a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) asking for multiple, 3D print ready-made files of Core Tactile Symbols to assist her student with multiple disabilities. The SLP had trialed many different approaches to communicate with her student, but none were appropriate solutions to meet the student’s needs. Because the student’s school district has limited resources to fabricate specialized assistive technology devices, the SLP reached out to IATP Makers for this specific request in hopes of another solution to communication for her student.
The IATP Makers team located a public library in the student’s local area who was able to complete the project. IATP Makers gathered the files and sent them to the library to be printed for the SLP to pick up.
