The Maker program was contacted by an individual requesting clips to attach her arm crutches to her wheelchair for easier transportation. The Makers team quickly got to work designing and fabricating a suitable device. After some consulting, the Makers produced the final device. Featured is a clip with a 3D printed rubber spring to hold the crutch in place when it was clipped in. The design was a combination of open source and original components. The device was 3D printed out of ABS and PETG filament. ABS was used in the areas that would experience the highest wear and friction. PETG was used in all other areas to provide adequate heat resistance alongside greater flexibility than PLA. The parts were assembled using epoxy to ensure both the strength and longevity of the device. The client who requested the device was so happy and grateful of IATP’s services being able to help her.
