Child feeling JellyBean switch covers
Girl using a switch, activating a device

The IATP Makers Program was contacted by one of IATP’s Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) about making switch covers for speech devices. She was requesting covers that were more tactile for users with visual impairments. The Makers Program fabricated new switch covers that would perfectly fit on top of the existing switch bases. Each switch was a different color and featured different words on them related to the sound clip that would play when the button is pressed. Adaptive switches provide an alternative way to activate a variety of devices and appliances. Alternative access methods support independence and play. With the new switch covers many other children will be able to use the Jelly bean switches.
