Classroom using Adapted Pouring Device to pour cup

A speech language pathologist (SLP) who works in many elementary schools in her area requested a device that would allow roughly 30 students on her caseload greater access to pouring independently while learning to use their communication device. This adapted pouring device is used by students to make arts and crafts, including pouring liquids such as paint, and to mix ingredients by the press of a momentary adapted switch positioned at the student’s best access point.
By pushing and holding the switch, the device is activated through a ball-mirror motor which then rotates the cup, pouring the items out until released, therefore providing a greater opportunity for the students to be independent while engaging in activities. Once the device was assembled, it was tested by hooking up a variety of adapted switches and using them to pour water from the cup. Overall, the cost estimation of the fabricated device and materials is under twenty-five dollars compared to a similar manufactured device costing between two hundred to three hundred dollars.
