Alex is a pleasant gentleman who earned his master’s degree in information science by relying on personal note takers to write and type his work throughout his schooling. He has cerebral palsy which impacts his verbal communication and his ability to use his hands for typing. Alex is only able to type with one finger at a time and must stabilize his palms on his keyboard, making the process of typing exceedingly tedious. The IATP Makers program created a custom keyguard specifically designed for the new left- handed keyboard. This adaptation allows him to stabilize his hands on the keyboard without accidentally pressing keys. Because he has a unique grasping style, Alex cannot use a smart phone. Currently he uses a
basic flip phone, but this makes texting and talking extremely difficult. As a result, he often resorts to communicating with individuals through email. After some research, it was decided that a phone case with a large handle would provide Alex with the ability to hold a smart phone and use it effectively without accidental screen touches.
